Ok, I was replying this thread and my finger slipped and I lost ALL that I wrote! Since I was translating a fairly long song, I lost about 45 minutes of work!!!
Automatic saving of what we write is what we need! (or better control of our limbs?)
Starting again: Libérez-nous des libéraux (Free us from the liberals), by Loco Locass, is a great protest song here in Québec, that has been running since 2004 and is not about to go away, since the liberals were recently re-elected. I decided not to retranslate all, but you'll get the idea.
Ready or not, the Charest (Qc's Prime Minister) whore, restless, butchers to pieces the frame
Of the house we took 40 years to build.
Aren't you the one who militate for Amir Khadir? (leader of a left wing party)
Now the table is set for four years to suffer, to grow quickly pale,
Stupefied by the sight of the gang of idiots that sell off fast
That sell off cheaply, on the side, what has no price
Once the mandate is over, the country looks like gibblets.
Coupe sombre, coupe à blanc, Coupe Grey
Drastic cuts, severe cuts, Grey cup
"Alouette, je te plumerai"
And to cut short the crowd's wrath
Patapouf (nickname given to Charest) strangles the crowd and legislate as fast as he can,
then smiling, he feeds soup to the homeless
"That's solidarity when you threw everything down"
And to shut you up, argument unique in America.
But his business, fits far too well
the business leaders
Of Canada and the Employers Consultency
Gag or no gag, I mock anyway, the boss of Bosses
"Shut up Taillon" (ex-leader of the Employers Consultency)
Hey, if the crazy demolition excites you so much that it's like music to your ears, how do you like the barbarian's racket in your ears?
Facing the threat of the wholesale sell-off we brandish the Nation's fist to the face of the bandits.
Free us from the liberals.
Because of the French text, I have not used spellcheck - sorry for the possible mistakes!
The point I'm making: protest songs are still being written, but on small scales for particular causes.
