I stopped equating "amount of money earned" with "success". Although as a teacher, clearly I've wrestled - and lost - that argument!
I value the relative independence of teaching vs the potential of making more money. Additional money won't really change the level of my life style, but a more demanding and stressful job certainly would. Perhaps having better overall working/living conditions, even at the cost of earning less money, is what higher intelligence is really all about?
