What a nice idea! Is there any chance of non-Kindle freebies? Even more importantly, how about non-Kindle non-DRM freebies that can be downloaded from a web-site (perhaps from the publisher)? That would:
  • Let the Sony Reader and iRex and Astak and BeBook (etc. etc.) owners in on the fun.
  • Going with a web-site rather than the manufacturer's store would let the Mac and Linux owning Sony owners have access -- the Sony store freezes us out.
  • Reach a much broader group of potential customers. Some estimates suggest that Kindle owners make up a plurality, but not a majority, of owners of eBook reader hardware.

If you were even more ambitious, you could get Fictionwise and Books-On-Board and smashwords and others in on distributing your freebie. That'd broaden your reach still farther.
