Correct me if I'm wrong, are you saying that the contrast ratio (background whiteness vs text blackness) is better on the dr?
Looking at your pictures it seems pretty much the same to me.
Yes the text stands out on the DR more and is easier to read IMO. The DX on the other hand seems to be lighter in comparison which may not be so obvious from my pictures.

taken from the kindleDX user guide:

Kindle DX can display a PDF document without losing the formatting of the original file. (You cannot change the text size on menus, in PDF
files, or on Kindle screens, such as the Home screen or the Kindle Store.)

3.6 Reading PDF files
Your Kindle DX is able to display most PDF documents.
When your Kindle is held in portrait orientation, PDF documents are displayed in their original layout and fit the entire screen of the device. White margins of PDF documents are automatically cropped to maximize the amount of content shown on the screen.

So the DX turns pages faster than the DR, how about open a file? Is there obvious difference?
I tried it with the openfile on the DR and really there is no comparison. The DX is much snappier and the refresh rate is much quicker using the identical pdf's. The DR occasionally turns pages quickly but has that pop-up often that say's I believe "please wait", the DX doesn't hesitate like that even when clicking the button many times in a row.
