I have responded. As Bertold Told me. I am Wrong.....YOU are right. Enjoy.
Hidari, Criticism is good, when it's meant to be constructive and presented in a positive way. Criticism just for the sake of it, is never good. The same can be said for "stirring the pot." True debate on a topic is a wonderful thing. It helps all sides of an argument (and I don't use argument in it's common usage in regards to hostilities between people) express their ideas for further clarification. Ricky is absolutely correct. People have all kinds of opinions. Some I agree with and some I don't. Agreeing with everyone would be counterproductive. But, understanding what is behind their opinions helps expand our humanity and our view of the world. I personally would hate to live in a world where opinions were limited to only those with which I agree.
There have been many threads where I have not agreed with other posters, but the majority of people with whom I disagreed responded in a friendly non-combative manner which furthered the discussion and helped clarify their point of view. Did I change my view, most likely not, but I gained a more rounded perspective. On the other hand, I did not post to your Lord of the Rings thread predominantly because of the aggressive wording of your original post. Taking an antagonistic approach to a debate adds nothing but hard feelings and is, once again, counterproductive to the discussion. If you want to start a thread to discuss a topic about which you feel strongly, please do so. Just remember to state your opinion clearly, concisely, and with out angst. You will get a great deal more responses and a much more fulfilling debate.
