Lightbulb Kindle DX: Turn Auto-Rotation Off To Conserve Battery Life
Amazon Customer Service is telling people that turning Auto-Rotation off will conserve battery life even when not using the Kindle DX. Some people on the Amazon boards have reported that this works although I have not seen much difference myself.
