Amazon has two formats, TOPAZ is only available on the Kindle and is typically used to get older printed books into an ebook format (and is not very common) and AZW is Amazon's name for the same MOBI format that is used on the DR1000S. The Kindle's reader software is also based on the same Java MOBI reader as on the DR1000S.
The Kindle only has 6 font sizes, but the DR1000S has many more sizes and a much larger maximum font size. The Kindle can lookup "instantly" in one dictionary but the DR1000S can lookup words in multiple dictionaries. The KDX has significantly better image support in ebooks. I don't think the DR1000S can use landscape mode on MOBI books, as the KDX can.
