If I ever had a chance to just go and sightsee, it'd probably become my favorite city in the world, but every time we go it's either to pick up a kid at an airport, or drop a kid off at an airport, or a big ceremony in a big place with lots of people and exorbitant parking fees.
I love Chicago too, especially the museums, food, music etc., but I agree with you the trip to the airport is nightmare, the traffic horrendous and the parking is very, very expensive. We try to take public transport whenever we go in to the city. My family are all train fanatics (ahem, excuse me, train enthusiasts) so taking the train is mandatory. For a treat we take Amtrak.

Soon it will be July and your few weeks of madness will be over...
