Alastair Reynolds is apparently pretty amazing too. Revelation Space (both a series and the first book therein) has 5 books, and he also has some other novels and short stories too.
Haven't read him yet... but someone in a thread of mine on the topic told me they think Alastair outshines Iain M. Banks. So make it a 6th. What is that, another 2-3 months?
