Because the only way for the general public to contact him is to write to him THROUGH his publisher. He's a celebrity of sorts (one might even say. . . you guessed it, elite); therefore, us common folk don't get the right to email him directly. We have to wedge our way past his "people" to have our audience with his High & Mightiness.
