Quite a bit of change from the original poll. But I can honestly understand it. One of the big selling points of the Kindle is "See book, Buy book" and appeals to the sort of group that likes the uber-simplicity of it. Most Kindle owners I know really didn't even consider seriously anything other than a Kindle (even though they had no problem with other readers). A good chunk of them probably got them, did a search for help, found this place (the most usable resource for all things e-reading) and, reaching out with their cute little newbie hands, got the help they needed to get to a comfortable reading level. Then, they left. Oh sure, they send letters once in a while between classes and irresponsible all night reading binges but do they think of home? Ha, ungrateful little...sorry. Projecting a bit there.
Sony owners probably...tinker more. (I said "tinker". Don't go messin' with my spelling.) Without a built in delivery system they find their own book vendors and directly deal with more of the ever so charming e-chaos of formats, good and bad. So they will be hanging around here since it is such a good source of news, answers, books, even occasional conversation with less screaming found at other some other sites.
In a clearer example of the difference in owners, I bet a higher percentage of Sonys would be willing to flash a new OS to their readers than the Kindles would. (Most of the Kindle people look at me oddly when I mention messing with the Sonys OS. At least I hope that's why they look at me oddly.)
...looks down...
(Aw man, have I been walking around with that down all day?)
