Not sure why, since the line-length is less than that of a regular hardcover?

Unless you go down to the smallest point-size (but then limiting the line-length would kind of defeat the purpose....)

In any event, I wouldn't worry too much. The larger screen does get the real estate closer (but not quite,) to that of a normal book, so unless you have trouble with regular size books, you shouldn't have trouble with the K DX.

Also, the Kindle has a very rigid shell, so if you are reasonably careful, the screen should hold-up fine.
