I usually pick out names that end in a vowel and "n" ... the few exceptions have been those cats that have already been named and actually respond to the names they've already been given.
Harriett Putney and her son Winston were given to me by another rescuer. My own dear Winston had already passed away at the age of 20 some years past, so I gave them the hyphenated last name of Heydon-Putney and there you have it. She was such a proper lady, that I had to give her (and her son) titles, even though they were completely feral cats. Or, maybe because they were feral cats.
