The thriller author I've enjoyed most is Thomas Harris ('Silence of the Lambs' etc.), although I'd also recommend Alistair MacLean, Clive Cussler, Graham Greene, Harlan Coben.

(I'm currently reading Nelson DeMille's 'Wild Fire', but it's distinctly average. I certainly won't be looking out for anything more by him.)
