All good advice. I wanted the Sony but got a Kindle 1 used off Craigslist, because I figured out how to convert library books to be compatible with it. And because it was cheap. I read most of my books from the library and buy the occasional book.

I was asked recently which one to get, and I said the same thing as BookishMom - Sony for library books, Kindle if you're buying most of your books. I don't mind doing the manual conversion thing but I don't recommend it to non-techies.

Personally I'm really happy with the Kindle. I'm the first to admit it's not a necessary device - the library is full of paper books I haven't read. But I read a lot more now, probably twice as much as I used to just because it's so easy to get more books.
