Zelda, forgive me if this is an annoying suggestion, it is just something I have tried before.
Can you temporarily run an extension cord to another socket (outlet for us in the states) that you are fairly certain works properly? Then, I would try to recreate what you were doing when the computer did it's "wonky thing". Hopefully, your memory is much better than mine and you can remember what you did.
