If you're not going to be upset if you break your Kindle in the next year or two and instead are willing to pay $200 for a replacement or $300+ for a new ereader, then it's not worth it. I've dropped it without a case from 3 feet onto concrete and it didn't break. Other people have dropped it with a case from 3 feet onto carpet and it did break. It's more likely to break than your cell phone.
