The New Yorker news feed

I'm getting messed up special characters (quotes, etc.) when downloading The New Yorker using the default recipe via calibre's GUI (see attached pic). The quotes appear fine in the table of contents (i.e., Section Menu) but not in the main body of the article. Anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried adding:

encoding = 'utf-8'

to the recipe, but that didn't seem to have any impact.

Using calibre 0.5.13
Output to ePub
Windows XP SP2
