Ebooks are wonderful for history. Virtually everything pre-1920s is available. T he trouble is, most of the time you have no way of knowing what translation the history is, the formatting is screwed up, etc.

I'm not sure about current military histor. I'm a history buff, too, and have been looking. It looks to me that we'll just have to pay the full 20 bucks for the newer releases.

Gutenberg has been mentioned, that's a good one, as is Google Books. The rest I just sort of scour the web for, using google searches.
