Let's cool off everybody. There is plenty of room for people with conflicting opinions. I can certainly see the point of publishers and writers who think that DRM is the way to go. If I have the choice of buying a DRM or Non-DRM book, I will choose the latter. On the other hand, I have bought plenty of DRM books, either because they were unavailable in any other format or in a few cases (I have to admit) because they were cheaper.

As for whether DRM will be around in five years, I think you can look at the music industry to see the trend away from DRM. It will be consumers who decide one way or another. As with all things in a free market economy, the market will decide.

In the meantime... we can manage to peacefully coexist with differing opinions on much more important things than this without resorting to personal attacks....
