Maybe it will help to think of it this way.
You got the Kindle 2 because you thought it was good enough to meet most of your needs at the time, even though it didn't have pdf support.
It can still do everything you bought it for.
You were planning when you got it to upgrade in X years, and hopefully something with pdf support would be available then.
And now you know something with pdf support *will* be available in X years. Furthermore you have a bunch of beta testers to try it out for you first and report on any potential problems. There may even be time for Amazon to iron out the problems and produce a new, better pdf-capable reader before you're due to upgrade.
So your major problem is that you're eating your heart out over a pdf-capable reader that came out ahead of schedule. But as regards your plans, you have a e-book reader that can do everything you bought it for and a known-quantity, possibly-improved pdf-capable e-book reader when it comes time to upgrade; you're right on track. And if you honestly can't stand it and must have the pdf-capable reader NOW, you can always sell the K2 on e-bay or craigslist for probably half the price of a K-DX.
