Yep. Well at least they say they aren't and I believe that. They're so focused on multimedia, an Apple tablet is going to have to play video and have color. I think when screen tech advances enough we'll see something that is also usable for a reader but that's probably going to be awhile. Even if the new Pixel Qi tech ends up being all we hope I'd be surprised to see it in under a year. Even a year is pretty optimistic.

A tablet with current color screens just isn't going to meet my minimum requirements for a reader. I want something that can go at least a full day without a recharge. I'd prefer it to be about a pound and comfortable to hold as well as comfortable for my eyes. Even with an LED-lit screen, it's hard to get more than 5-6 hrs out of a tablet or netbook and they're generally 2-3 pounds and hot. Even if you don't mind reading on a lit screen, they're not that good as reading devices. Apple has great designers but they're not magicians. They need radically better tech before they'll have the tablet of my dreams. Personally, I'm waiting to see what Pixel Qi's tech looks like. We should know its capabilities fairly soon. If it's not quite there yet, I'll probably order the DX to tide me over.
