Does sound like it may be kaput.

Ideally try a few different cables on wall-plug and PC. My device works intermittently on some cables where other devices have no problem.

After holding for 30 secs, did you then try waiting for 3-5 secs and giving the power button a quick press and release? Try holding for longer also... maybe 60 secs.

Does it even respond to the FW update button press?
Hold both page-back and page-forward down, then quick press of power, keeping holding back and forward until menu appears.
