I've come u with another solution. Use the Modify ePub plugin. Once you've run it, you then have a backup of the original ePub. I use it on every ePub I edit. Then when you are done and satisfied, you can remove the original ePub. Also Modify ePub does not use the original ePub if you run it multiple times. With my settings, sometimes I have to run it 2 or 3 times for it to say there's nothing to modify. It makes some changes that can really help.
