You could try to modify a font using FontForge. That is what I did quite a long time ago to make my favourite font Roboto appear bolder. I was also changing line height for some fonts there, so that I would have the ability to do a finer tweaks than in my e-ink reading device at the time. Back then you needed to run FontForge on Linux or in WSL with third-party X-window client. Nowadays it can be installed on Windows.

But, do not stop complaining. Write an email to PocketBook support. They do forward feedback to developers.
