Mobileread member zevi svei announced the remarkable python app kindle-reading-dashboard in the Kindle Developer's Corner sub-forum on June 15th in the thread

But I think installing it and trying it out is the only way to see just how fast and easy it is to browse notes, highlights, and reading stats for all the KF8/azw3 books on your kindle(s).
Since its initial release, support for multiple kindles, highlight text, and KFX has been added.
It also now has a calibre plugin to add reading metadata into columns (which I have not tried).
Note that this works for personal docs as well as books bought from amazon and does not require any interaction with amazon servers ever and gets its information from the .sdr directories and the on-device (unencrypted) book. kindle-reading-dashboard in part builds on the work of mobileread member jhowell on KRDS, which decodes the content of various files in the .sdr directories.
