I agree and think of the storage (disk space) saving. A VL is a database manipulation that controls what you see.
There are cases where a separate Library is a better choice. 1)the columns (data fields) are different or have fixed values that differ. 2)Keeping certain content away from little eyes. (a VL can hide, but not prevent switching)
