Brightness too high.
Reading with a bright reflection. Unconscious re-focusing on the reflection, especially caused by moving screen or object known nearly 50 years to cause headaches due to eyestrain.
Needing reading glasses.
Too small font.
Poor contrast.
Nxtpaper is not unique, though done well. TCL stupidly hypes the "eink simulation modes" and also the default settings which is all actually worst than sRGB, manual brightness, a sane theme and adjusting colour balance to match ambient.
The "blue light" strain or keep you awake claims are largely myth. Stimulation and brightness keeps you awake!
