If this is an unusual firmware, would there be community interest in my keeping it for a while (for "research" or whatever)?

Re flashing, is there any reason not to pick the latest firmware? If not why are older known firmwares so well supported?
I suspect that firmware version is the factory reset version on that revision of a refurbished Libra 2. So no reason to worry about keeping it around.

I would just install the latest firmware version. Much of the support you are looking at is from when those firmware versions were the latest and greatest and some people are still running them.
