Update:
So maybe it's the "user-defined device" thingy. I disabled the Nook plugin (where are those plugins????? if I could find the bloody thing I might be able to alter it!) and went to look at the User-Defined device plugin. I found I needed the USB VID, PID and RID. Theoretically Calibre might be able to tell me those from the Advanced-Misc screen. But it comes up blank....
So I go to Windows Device Manager and get those values for the Nook Classic (only found looking at the USB section, as an ADB device...not with the Portable devices).
I add those to the User-Defined plugin information and set the target to "Library" on both internal and external memory.
This works GREAT!
Not. The whole idea was to be able to easily get both the books and thumbnails onto the device without fail. No thumbnails are transferred :-(
