Yes, capacitive is lighter on the battery, but in the case of ereaders the difference is insignificant.
On my Kobo Touch the IR touch was less accurate, I mean sometimes it needed an extra tap to register the page turn.

But I'd still prefer IR touch over capacitive, because IR doesn't need an extra layer on top of the screen.
It would be even better to make devices without a touchscreen and give back the buttons to operate the device.
Buttons are more reliable than touchscreens. Unfortunately E Ink doesn't make Carta screens with frontlight AND without touch layer. You can only have both or none.
