Version 4.0 sent to AppStore (Read aloud, comics, line focus, ...)
■ New features
- Comics and manga. Read CBZ and CBR files beside your books, with two-page spreads, double-tap zoom, a page grid, an adjustable page dim, and a reading direction you set per book.
- Read Aloud. Any EPUB without its own narration can be read to you, by any Apple voice on your device or by natural English voices you download once and then run offline. The sentence highlights as it is spoken, the pages turn on their own, and speed, sentence skips, a sleep timer and Lock Screen controls are always at hand.
- Background listening. Prepare a book in advance and keep listening with the screen off or the app in the background.
- Line Focus. Dim the page and keep a guide on the line you are reading.
- Audiobooks from anywhere. Import them from Files, drag and drop or Open In, not only from your library folder. FLAC now reads like M4B and MP3, as a single file or as a folder of chapters.
- Yearly books goal. Set how many books you want to finish this year and follow the progress from Home.
- Wide tables in EPUBs no longer get cut off. They scroll inside the page, or open full screen with pinch to zoom.
- Print a book's highlights, and share a PDF highlight as a quote card.
- Cover size. Show small, medium or large covers in the library grid.
- Discovery tips and new Help Center topics, so features stop hiding.
- An Acknowledgments screen listing every open source component in the app.
■ Improvements
- The app now says when iOS has blocked Local Network access, instead of letting every Calibre and OPDS connection fail as if the address were wrong.
- Covers show a format pill only when your library holds more than one format.
- Calibre and OPDS server passwords moved to the Keychain.
- Large OPDS downloads no longer share the catalog timeout, a failed download says so and offers a retry, and an expired login asks you to sign in again.
- EPUB columns on iPad follow the window instead of the device, so Split View and Slide Over stay readable.
- Sheets ask before discarding text you have typed.
- The Export Highlights Shortcut can export a single book.
■ Fixes
- Fixed the sync icon spinning forever after the app came back from the background.
- Fixed the reader on iPad reopening at the start of the chapter after the app had been in the background.
- Fixed an audiobook folder with a dot in its name losing part of that name.
- Fixed the history and image strips in the reader drawing an oversized background.
- Fixed multi-file drag and drop reporting the wrong number of imported books.
- Fixed a rating changed on another device needing a relaunch to show up.
■ Accessibility
- VoiceOver summaries for the reading charts in the widgets.
- Full-size tap targets in the highlight menu and the list sheets.
- Sheets that were cramped at accessibility text sizes now open large.
■ Localization
- All the new text is natively translated across all 17 supported languages.
