I was using Sigil to edit the ePub and I seem to remember that Sigil and calibre's ebook-editor use different flavours of regex.

I've attached a screenshot of my Sigil find/replace/options. For calibre, you might want to visit Regex101 and see if it has any complaints about the regex differences.
