I talked about this in another thread, but good to have a thread that deals with this issue specifically.
First off, not all ebooks allow 6 copies, some allow less, especially textbooks like medical ones, which often only allow one copy, so one device ... annoying for students who want a copy on their tablet and a copy on their PC.
Quite a few ebooks allow unlimited copies, apparently.
Some years back, I had an issue where a removed ebook from my ereader and other devices were not reducing the copy count, despite me no longer having that ebook on any device.
Trying to resolve the issue with Amazon support, I was told to reset my Kindle device, by de-registering it, which would have meant losing all (hundreds) and then having to download them to the device again, and of course I wasn't confident that would work either. So I refused to do that, and asked to go higher up the support chain of command. That happened, and when I spoke to a more knowledgeable and empowered person, they checked while I had wifi on, and then at the click of a button, reset my copies value.
So don't let them get away with saying they can't do anything, you just need the right support person.
