Doing my own corrections

I recently downloaded a one of my favorite books in mobipocket format, and was very disappointed to find that the book is riddled with typos and layout problems. So I have decided to try to make my own corrections.

I have used Calibre to convert it to ePub format in the hope that I could get to the basic text and correct it through my HTML editor, and then use Calibre to convert the corrected version back to Mobipocket.

But I have not been able to open the ePub file at all.

Is there a way I can use Calibre to edit the basic text? If not, is there another Windows XP based program I can use to edit ePub files?

Regards, Alex
