I can confirm that using nickle the powersave mode makes a significant improvement to battery life. I estimate between 25% and 50%. I also notice slower performance when navigating footnotes a largish books (8 mb), and possibly slower loading of book covers in list mode, neither of which matter much to me. I may remove covers in calibre. It's not a formal measure, but sure it makes a difference that is worthwhile to me.
