Calibre's Convert feature can convert epub3 to epub2, FYI.

The last time I asked (in EpubMerge) which was more popular, everybody who spoke up was in favor of epub2. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...81#post4478381 and subsequent replies.

EpubMerge automatically--and silently--converts epub3 inputs to epub2.

I suppose EpubSplit could, too. But it would happen immediately when you start EpubSplit, so it would start a bit slower. I'd save it to a temporary file rather than converting the epub in your library.

My other idea is to make a new plugin that only works on epub3 and combines EpubMerge and EpubSplit. I've always considered them a matched set. I don't know if I currently have the ambition for that, though.
