I connected my kindle, expecting to delete the old book from it and copy the new one. But the old one didn't appear. I had to delete it from the kindle ui not from calibre. Is this intentional? Are some books on the kindle in a "books you can't manage from calibre" state?
Latest calibre on fedora.
If the book is not in your calibre library, you would have to look for it in the Device => Show books in the main memory of the device view where you can see books that are on the device with a checkmark for those that are also in the current calibre library.

It would probably have been easier to send the new version with the changed name and then delete the old version from library and device.
