Define "long time". If you only read around 30 minutes a day an Android-based eink device may last maybe a week or two after being fully charged and with all the bloatware apps and wifi disabled. It depends on the size of the battery and the background activities. Fast scrolling through pages (like in a magazine or comic book) usually needs more enery than turning a page of a book after reading it completely because you do more actions in a shorter time frame.
You can usually disable many of the apps an Android device comes with. I never use the google apps and always disable them for example.

What I like about Android in general: you can install your favourite apps for reading and are not limited to what is pre-installed on the device. You can also install the dictionairies you like.

I disagree about the NXTPAPER 40 (4G). It really doesn't work well in direct sunlight.
The 50 works much better after an update some time again. I remember when I first got the 50 shortly after the release in Europe I had trouble using it in sunlight, that improved after an update. The 60 Ultra also works good. The old tablet NXTPAPER 11 also isn't really usuable in direct sunlight. Haven't used the 11 plus outside so far.
