Columns are Per Library.
You can drag the divider. Right click and use the adjust width menu:<options>
Switch Create Library has the option 'Copy structure....' This makes an empty Library with ALL the current settings and columns. Then All you need to do is select all the books in the odd Library and :copy to Library: <new, beautiful library, then delete the old--empty one>
