This sounds like one of those things that is confusing until the need for a change appears somewhere.
I have Adobe Digital Editions installed on my PC and a bunch of devices signed in with that so I expect that for now, not much will change in that sense, but since I de-DRM (with deACSM) all my purchased books as a matter of course, I’m definitely going to keep an eye on any developments...
