I have found a way to continue to purchase and read amazon books to my pre-2012 Kindle reader device.

As you probably know, from yesterday (May 14, 2026) pre-2012 Kindle reader devices are no longer supported by amazon, you cannot load purchased ebooks. Interestingly enough, you can still buy books using this device, but not download.

The way to purchase a new book from amazon and get it into the Kindle device is this:

Use the amazon website to select and purchase the ebook.
Find the ebook info page for the purchased book, scroll down to "Product details", find the ASIN code.
Example for George Orwells "1984":
ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0F1TDPVBY

Connect your pre-2012 Kindle device to your desktop computer using the USB cable, it will come up as a disk device on the desktop. The disk device contains a directory called "documents". Open it and create a new, empty, directory/folder inside it and name it with the book purchase ASIN code. In my example, name it "B0F1TDPVBY".

Dismount the disk device from the computer desktop.

Open the Kindle and search for the book you just purchased.
It will appear in the search list, click on it and it will appear in your collection.
Click on it and it will download.

Happy reading with your old pre-2012 Kindle!!
Amazon is still allowing your Kindle to download. So what you posted won't work after Amazon turns off the downloads. What you are doing is just downloading your eBooks, It's not a workaround. The pre-2012 Kindles will stop downloads on either May 20 or May 21. So on May 14, your Kindle still works.
