Have a Go 10.3 (Gen II) Lumi.
Ok sunlight and next to a shaded window daytime, but sunset and night needs backlight.
Just the nature of these reflective displays.
Ie. I wouldn't expect a miracle with any of the latest gen "paper-white" displays, which are honestly light gray.
Don't know the exact rules here, but search Google for the review published this month on my tablet model and it'll bring up a long review with tons of photos that will give you an better idea.
3. Only other potential option is tcl nxtpaper tablets.
