Thanks for the extensive replies, Kevin. That sort of detail gives me the horrors

. I always hope to avoid going there.
I tried the
Code:
export QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software
but that didn't help.
Ubuntu doesn't seem to have any vulkan-radeon package, unlike Archlinux. But that package seems to be for AMD whereas I have an Intel i5 processor, but I suppose it is referencing the graphics card processor? The articles you quoted also mention vulkan-intel package, but Ubuntu doesn't list that either, nor vulkan-nouveau, nor lib32-vulkan-xxx.
My version of AppImage is Sigil-2.7.6-x86_64.AppImage and I see the env-vars.txt file, but the Sigil User Guide doesn't give the name of the variable for disabling GPU acceleration. I tried turning it off on another box to see if Sigil would write it into the env-vars.txt file in that box, but it doesn't.
Can you provide the details of entry to add in the env-vars.txt file?
And what do you mean by downgrading the libgallium package? Replacing the present version with an earlier one? If so, how to find an earlier one when Synaptic Package manager only lists the one I've got ?
