I want to report an interesting result on my Oasis 2. It was on 5.16.2.1.1 and I was unable to clean books that had been downloaded to it. Last weekend I decided to try to jailbreak it and try downgrading to 5.16.2.1. Unfortunately, I was still unable to remove DRM from books downloaded to the device after doing this.

Because I had blocked upgrades on the device, it was still on 5.16.2.1 today. I was reading the Amazon and DRM Changes thread this morning, and JSWolf said the following:
Quote:
My guess is that if your Kindle is infected with the new DRM, after you jailbreak, you may have to downgrade the firmware in order to remove the infection.

And supposedly, if you reset your Kindle, you get may get rid of the infection until the next time Amazon uploads it.
I responded with the unfortunate results of my experiment from last weekend, and decided that I would try doing a factory reset on the device to see if that worked.

It did.

I did a full reset, filled the Kindle so that there is only 70 MB free, then registered it, and downloaded a book that I hadn't been able to clean before, and I am now able to.

Note that at this point I haven't yet re-applied the jailbreak. When I connected the Kindle back to my PC after registering and downloading the book from Amazon, there was a .bin.partial file that showed up on the device. I deleted it.

So there *is* hope for those on 5.16.2.1.1

I can't guarantee that it will work for other firmwares, but it certainly did for this one.
