Turning off calibre bookmarks

Bless you. Maybe I'm the only oblivious one here, but I'm always accidentally opening books in the Viewer and could never figure out how to turn off calibre bookmarks. I didn't even realize the Viewer had preference settings! They're not in the menu bar on Mac and I guess I never hovered over the right place to show the controls or just didn't notice them before.

I realize I'm three years late to this thread, but had to say thanks.
