So far Kindles on firmware 5.16.2.1.1 and 5.18.5 and up are the ones getting KFX DRM which cannot be removed at the moment. But soon probably all Kindles which get kfx. Which is all the ones they're not cutting off next month.
DRM can currently be removed from the latest Kindle for PC books, but there are hints that Kindle for PC might not be around much longer.
So I won't dissuade you. They've been moving away from azw3 and toughening kfx drm for years now.
