Have doubts this is fixable: If the left side BD has kb focus, I can't dismiss the panel with the Toggle EBD shortcut (for me that's Ctrl+Alt+E), I have to give the Book list focus first (for me that's Ctrl+Shift+L).
IMO, there needs to be a subtle visual indication that the left side BD has focus, I suggest making the "Extended Book Details" at top of panel Bold Italic.
I would not object if Escape in left side BD relinquished focus
