I have seen Charis SIL referred to as a slab serif though like it's ancestral Bitstream Charter, I consider it more of a transitional serif font with the tapered appearance of the serifs and the rounding where they join. Time to stop before I get all boring with maundering about the increased weight in vertical lines such as the bowls of lower case letters, etc.

I've attached images of Bookerly, Charis SIL and Baskerville fonts to allow comparing them.
