After a while, the cats picked up on an odd noise mixed in with the whirring and thumping. As the LITTLE RED DOT hadn't reappeared, they padded off to investigate, in case it was a mouse.
Then they paused, ears twitching. This wasn't quite what they were expecting. they edged closer, and paused again, looking alert. Then, as one, they started yowling.
So preoccupied with yowling were they that they didn't even notice the sound of the front door opening...
